Milena Kitic to Debut at the Met as Carmen in Fall '05

Milena Kitic has just been
signed to make her Metropolitan Opera debut in the fall of 2005 as the title
role in Carmen. In October 2004, she won unanimous raves performing in the same
role in the Los Angeles Music Center Opera's production of Carmen. Ms. Kitic is
also scheduled to play Delilah in Samson and Delilah at Opera Pacific opening
February 22, 2005, Meg in Falstaff in May of 2005, with the Los Angeles Opera,
and Amneris in Aida with Opera Pacific in 2006. In 1998 Milena Kitic made her
United States debut in the demanding role of Eboli in Verdi's Don Carlo, with
The Palm Beach Opera, which inspired a return to that same opera company in
April of 2000, to perform as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Within five
years of coming to America Ms. Kitic made her Carnegie Hall debut with Opera
Orchestra of New York as Emilia in Othello for Carlo Bergonzi's farewell
concert, she debuted with Washington National Opera as Carmen and with Los
Angeles Opera as Giulietta in Les contes d' Hoffmann. She also appeared in A
Concert of Passion and Poetry with Los Angeles Opera, as Herodias in Salome
with Opera Pacific, as Laura in La Gioconda with Opera Orchestra of New York
and Carmen with the Baltimore Opera. A star of the Belgrade, Yugoslavia Opera
Ms. Kitic made her debut in 1989 as Olga in Eugene Onegin. In 1998, she earned
the German music critic's award as Performer of the Season after performances
as Carmen with the Essen Opera. She has performed Carmen throughout Germany,
Austria, The Netherlands and Belgium. She has performed Maddalena in Rigoletto
at at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Festspielhaus Salzburg. Ms. Kitic
studies with the Metropolitan Opera star Mrs. Biserka Cvejic. She speaks and
sings in several languages including Serbian, German, Italian and English. She
and her husband have homes both in Pasadena and Newport Beach.
